The many double BSRs across the northern Hikurangi margin and their implications for subduction processes

چکیده
The bottom simulating reflection (BSR) is widely observed along continental margins and believed to mark the base of gas hydrate stability zone (BGHSZ). In some regions, double or multiple overlapping BSRs are observed, yet their formation mechanisms geologic implications not well understood. Here we present 3D seismic images from 2018 NZ3D experiment that covers a 14×60km2 survey area on New Zealand's northern Hikurangi subduction margin. We observe in five locations. Beneath Tuaheni Basin mid-slope, secondary BSR (BSR2) lies ∼100-360 m deeper than primary (BSR1) its geometry mimics unconformity at basin. At three thrust ridges located 18-38 km deformation front, BSR2 ∼55-130 below sub-parallel BSR1. another ridge ∼14 forms above BSR1, two converge towards peak ridge. Through modeling BGHSZ analysis characteristics BSRs, identify potential for (1) rapid sedimentation, (2) tectonic uplift, (3) overpressure/heat advection caused by fluid migration. Our study demonstrates closely linked processes margin, may be used as indicators areas with recent and/or activities.

Velocity and anisotropy structure at the Hikurangi subduction margin, New Zealand from receiver functions
S U M M A R Y We examine seismic velocity and anisotropy at the interface between the Australian and the subducting Pacific Plate in southern North Island, New Zealand using receiver functions from teleseismic earthquakes recorded on two L-shaped seismic arrays. IRIS station SNZO makes up the corner of the southern array. Velocity models are tested with a ray theoretical method that allows both...

the study reflected in this thesis aims at finding out relationships between critical thinking (ct), and the reading sections of tofel and ielts tests. the study tries to find any relationships between the ct ability of students and their performance on reading tests of tofel and academic ielts. however, no research has ever been conducted to investigate the relationship between ct and the read...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

The active Hikurangi 12 Margin lies along the Pacific-Australia subduction plate boundary and contains a diverse range of 13 geomorphologic settings. Slope basin stratigraphy is thick and complex, resulting from sustained h...

Health systems across the world are concerned with the quality and safety of patient care. This includes investing in research and development to progress advances in the treatment and management of individuals and healthcare organisations. The concept of evidence- based healthcare has gained increasing currency over the last two decades; yet questions persist about the time it takes for new re...
